Ensemble Placement Auditions

Wind Band and Symphony Orchestra Auditions

Instrumental Chair Placement Auditions for the OCU Wind Ensemble, Wind Philharmonic, and Symphony Orchestra occur the Sunday before classes begin each semester.

Audition music is posted on the Ensemble Library SharePoint page and audition times will be posted by August 1. Sight-reading is required for all auditions. All percussionists will be asked to audition on snare, mallets, and timpani. Please contact Francisco Venegas if you have questions regarding this process at [email protected].

Assignments for Wind Ensemble, Wind Philharmonic, and Symphony Orchestra will be posted the morning following auditions. Pit Orchestra assignments will be posted as well.

Non-major students interested in auditioning for wind bands or orchestra should submit the following form:

Jazz Ensemble Auditions

Auditions for jazz ensembles are held during the first week of school each semester on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 4:00-6:00pm in Large Rehearsal Hall (Bass Center A110). Students interested in jazz ensembles must sign up for an audition slot - a list of slots is typically posted outside of Large Rehearsal Hall in advance of auditions.

A prepared jazz excerpt and sight reading will be requested. Improvisation experience is helpful but not required. Jazz auditions may involve an informal jam session.

Students interested in participating in a combo should communicate this with the jazz director at any point in the audition process.

Jazz ensembles are open to both music majors and non-major students. For any other questions, please contact jazz director Vince Norman at [email protected]

Choral Placement Auditions

The Choral placement auditions schedule will be announced shortly before the start of each semester.

If graduate vocal students wish to participate in a choral ensemble, he or she must complete a choir placement audition before the first day of class.

There will be a prepared example for you when you schedule your audition time. Included in the audition will be general vocalizing and sight-reading.

Auditions for choir placement will take place in Dr. Longhurst's office (Bass Center B207). If you have specific questions, please call Dr. Julie Yu at 405-208-5015 or email her at [email protected].
