Stars on the Front Lines of the Pandemic: Morgan Grizzle

We are inspired by the stories of our alumni serving on the front lines during this global pandemic.

Over the course of the next few weeks, we want to share their stories with you. Some are serving their communities, some are far from home, but all are serving with courage and grace.

UPDATE: Morgan Grizzle - New York City

Morgan Grizzle and her fellow nurses

Our original story about Morgan appeared on April 6. She had arrived in New York and was prepared to start her service on the front line of the COVID-19 battle.

I am exhausted every day but am so humbled ... I have decided to re-sign for another 21 days so I will be here a total of six weeks.

April 21 — "I've been learning dialysis. Never done it before but coming to New York required a lot of flexibility. I wake up every morning at 5:45am to catch the 6:30am bus headed to Kings County Hospital for my 8:00am shift. I work until 10:30pm and then take the bus back to the hotel in Times Square. I get to bed at 11:30 and start my routine again the next day. I am exhausted every day but am so humbled. The Kings County employees have been so appreciative and so have the patients. I hear codes all day ... every day ... but always stop and pray hard during these times. I am only on day 16 out of 21. Dialysis is needed so badly. I have decided to re-sign for another 21 days so I will be here a total of six weeks."

In less than 48 hours, she was on a flight to NYC, doing what she says she was called to do.

These 21 days are going to be exhausting, mentally, physically, and emotionally. But I am ready to fight the COVID war! NYC, here I come!

"I will keep you all updated the best I can! Thank you all for the words of encouragement and the continuous prayers. Please continue social distancing and stay home! I hope everyone stays safe out there!"
