Biography

Dr. Roberta Sloan is a director, actress, teacher, Executive Producer, and administrator. She has served as a Theatre Department Chair at three universities. Originally from Chicago, Oklahoma has been her home for thirty-four non-consecutive years.

She received her BA from Northwestern University in Drama Education and her M.A. and Ph.D. from The University of Michigan, in Theatre. She is also a certified Fitzmaurice Voicework Associate. She has taught and served in Administrative Positions at University of Oklahoma, University of Central Oklahoma, Marymount University, University of Central Florida, Temple University and now, at Oklahoma City University.

Sloan has directed and acted in over 200 productions. Favorite roles include Ruth Steiner in Collected Stories, Golde in Fiddler on the Roof, Mrs. Vitale in Tony n’ Tina’s Wedding, and Dorothea in Eleemosynary. Directing credits include the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival award-winning productions of Angels In America, Parts I, (the first university production in the U.S.A.), Angels in America, Part II, Quilters, Bonjour! La Bonjour, and Zalman or The Madness of God. Other directing credits include Hamlet (twice), Richard III, The Merchant of Venice, The Three Musketeers, and The Marriage of Bette and Boo.

Dr. Sloan was the Producer and Host of the show “Arts Encounter,” which appeared weekly for three years on Oklahoma Public Television, and has produced many weekly and special documentary shows, including the award-winning “Story of Native American Painting,” as well as Addy Award winning television and radio commercials. She is most proud to be a recipient of a Kennedy Center Medal for her service to the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival, Most recently, she won a “Best Actress in a Short Film” award at the Glendale International Film Festival.
