Program Length: 10 Days of Instruction plus 2 travel days

Session Dates: June 20 - July 1

Cost: $1,800

Audition Required: Yes, audition required for all high school programs. See "Audition Requirements" below for audition details.

Age range: This program is available for students who are currently in the 9th–12th grades but is recommended for current sophomores and juniors. Seniors who have been accepted into OKCU are also welcome to apply without auditioning; they must, however, meet all additional admission requirements.

Applications will be accepted beginning December 1st, 2020.


Successfully navigating the audition experience — whether online or live - is a crucial part of the college admission process.

From self-taping, choosing the right repertoire, learning to interact with an admission panel, or nailing the audition performance, let us be your guide through this experience.

This 10-Day Intensive is intended for high school students who plan to pursue Musical Theater, Acting or Vocal Performance at the college level. Each student will receive diagnostic feedback with personal recommendations from OCU Professors in each area that will help set each student up for success during their college audition process.

This program is intended to prepare high school students for the rigorous life of a College Music Theater/Theater/Vocal Performance Major. The Pre-College Intensive will focus on individual growth and college audition readiness with special emphasis on self-tape and on-camera performance.


Participants of the Pre-College Intensive will receive diagnostic reviews in the following areas:

  • Private Voice Analysis
  • Monologues
  • One-On-One Song Coaching w/Dr. David Herendeen
  • Audition Choreography

Curriculum will include:

  • Daily Vocal Warmup and Voice Class taught by OCU Voice Faculty
  • One-On-One Coaching in Small Groups With
    • Dr. David Herendeen - Director of Opera and Music Theatre at OCU
    • Bass School of Music Coaching Staff
    • TheatreOCU Faculty
  • Repertoire Building - Small Groups and One-On-One Coaching of Existing Repertoire and Suggestions for Audition Repertoire Based on Type, Style and Vocal Range
  • Private Voice Lessons - One 30 Minute Voice Lesson Each Week
  • Elective Classes (Headshot & Resume, College Q&A's, etc.)
  • Zoom Sessions with Broadway Performers and Industry Professionals
  • College audition readiness

This will include uploading your headshot, resume, and audition (click here for audition requirements). A $50 application fee is required to submit your summer application.

Don't worry if you have little or no previous experience: Applications are processed based on the merits and personality shown in your audition.



Students who submit an application by January 20th, 2021 receive 15% off their entire tuition. Early application also provides financial aid consideration for qualified students.

OKCU Summer Music is pleased to offer a $150 scholarship to students selected to participate in their state's honor choir (All-State). Documented proof of participation/award required. See Tuition and Policies for details.


  • Two songs from the musical theater repertoire – one pre-1970 musical theater selection and one of your choice. Neither song should exceed three minutes.
  • Due to Covid 19 restrictions we will allow pre-recorded accompaniments. Please check your sound balance to make sure we can hear both you and your accompaniment. Whenever possible, we prefer live piano accompaniment.
  • Only microphones attached to camera input are allowed. Auditions should not be recorded using reverb enhancement or any pitch altering technology. If pitch altering or enhancement is suspected a new DVD will be requested.
  • A theatrical monologue. Monologues should not exceed 1 minute.


  • Recordings of live stage performances/shows are not acceptable.


First Admission Deadline: January 20th

Students who audition live or submit an audition by this date will be notified of their admission status by January 31st.

Second Admission Deadline: February 15th

Students who audition live or submit an audition by this date will be notified of their admission status by February 28th.

Third Admission Deadline: March 20th

Students who audition live or submit an audition by this date will be notified of their admission status by March 27th.

Once these deadlines pass admission will be on a rolling basis if there is space available.
